Cusack aims to offend

May 8th, 2008

Award winning actor John Cusack is nothing but outraged with the war in Iraq and how did he channel this? He made a low-budget political satire that he hopes to offend. The movie is highly inspired by his anger about the war. War Inc. is set in a fictional nation occupied by a private US company and was run by a former American vice president.

Cusack stars with Sir Ben Kingsley, Marisa Tomei and singer Hilary Duff in the film that premiered this week along with serious documentaries on Iraq at the Tribeca Film Festival help in New York.

Cusack argues the fact that using the 9/11 attach to make an imperial land grab in the Middle East is not right. They would like to raise awareness with the movie. Hilary Duff described it as funny, bizarre and a little disturbing. But at the end of the day, she said that the movie will portray what the country is doing and that it is wrong.

With the elections looming, this movie will surely score a couple of pinches. Let’s see how this affects the people.

15 Philly officers taken off the streets

May 7th, 2008

After a controversial video that shook the public, 15 officers are taken off the streets of Philadelphia while the authorities investigate. The video depicted 3 suspects being beaten to a pulp by police officers.

While it is true that officers are there to implement the law, they should not go over the law. There should be fair trial for everyone no matter what crime they are taken in for. The police are actually investigating a shooting crime that happened a couple of days ago when a fellow police officer was brutally shot by an automatic rifle.

Either way, criminals should be treated fairly and as the authorities investigate, hopefully, this would be a lesson to officials who slightly go over the border line.

Troops about to go home

May 6th, 2008

In the next few weeks, you can expect US soldiers to be walking along the streets of the United States once again. 3,500 American soldiers are scheduled to be back home in the next couple of weeks. By the summer, Washington plans to trim their forces in Iraq to about 140,000 soldiers. There are currently about 159,000 GI’s in Iraq.

This just goes to show that Iraq is on its way to becoming stable. Troops will soon pullout and life will soon be back to normal. However, if circumstances such as another gunfire exchange and explosions occur, we can expect a delay in the movement of troops and even expect more troops to arrive.

I am hoping for the best. Hopefully, there will be no more war. If this war is over, probably the world’s market will flourish and economy will rise once again. This war has exhausted not only the Americans but everyone around the world. If this ends, I’ll be one of the happiest people on earth.

Neville Brothers Reunite

May 5th, 2008

In New Orleans, the brothers came back on stage for the first time since the dreaded hurricane Katrina demolished their homes along with over 80 percent of the entire city.

Aaron, Art, Cyril and Charles were back on their heels on the big stage in front of an immense crowd at the city festival. The entire city were up on their feet and were pretty delighted to have the brothers back in their performance level once again. They were gone for over 2 years and the city missed them dearly. Their performance is yet another step forward as the city attempts to put the devastating memories of the 2005 storm behind.

Everyone was happy to have them back. Fans were roaring in applause and anticipation of yet another blissful city after their performance. Behind the scene, it was indeed a family reunion. The band was happy to be back in New Orleans who housed their talents.

There was something more with their return. Even from a distance I could see that everyone was on their way in putting all the bad memories aside and starting something new. This is a big leap since everyone is starting to enjoy and go back to the land that they loved before the storm came. Sooner or later, this city will be back on track and the memory of the storm will remain as one of the gloomy memories in the city’s history.

Jobless rate falls

May 2nd, 2008

This April, the job rate has gone down. Employers have cut down on the number of jobs being pawned. It was better than what was expected in the nation’s labor market.

For the past four months, the labor market has gone down drastically. But last April, the losses totalled to about 20,000 which is an improvement from the 81,000 reductions that occured back in March. It may not be much but this is something that citizens should be proud of considering the huge economic slump.

Let’s just hope that the time will come when we do not have to look at the numbers of jobs being cut down but we can look at the number of new jobs. The slump will not last forever and there is nowhere to go to but up.

Al-Qaida still has power?

April 30th, 2008

According to the US government, Al - Qaida has managed to gain ahead by doing their pre- Sept. 11 attack by hiding in remote places in Pakistan and launching attacks to neighbor Afghanistan. The attacks in Pakistan doubled between 2006 and 2007. The attacks rose to 16 percent which is 1127 incidents last year.

There are more than 22,000 people killed by terrorists around the world in 2007, 8 percent more in 2006, although the overall number of attacks fell. That’s a really big number. If this continues, more and more innocent people will die.

What is it that they are really fighting for? And are we ready to combat these people? There is a greater risk in killing more soldiers if we fight. But there is still a greater risk of innocent people getting killed if we chose not to. Which is better?

No Place like home

April 29th, 2008

The victims of tornadoes in Virginia has gone back to their homes. There are a whole lot of things to be fixed and maybe they are back out to fix their houses, fix those cars that are upside down, hammer those roofs and look for appliances that could still be working.

There are times that no matter how difficult and no matter how traumatizing every scenario is, there is still no place like home. Aside from the fact that they are all home, the good news is, search teams and dogs found no sign of deaths or any injured victims. This is something that everyone should be thankful for. They are like being watched over and blessed. Even if most of the houses and business establishments are damaged, its a good thing that no one got hurt. I am pretty sure that everything will soon be back to normal and they will again be living their lives amidst all the tornadoes.

The torch is back

April 28th, 2008

Once again, the water - dropping aircrafts are back in the skies to assist the ground firefighters in calming down a wildfire that broke out in Sierra Madre, California. The wild fire raged in east of Los Angeles, California which made 1000 families flee from their homes.

More than 580 fire fighters attacked the blazing fire and was complemented by a water dropping aircraft. As of now, it has charred 490 acres. The containment of the blaze went down to 23% from 30%. The wind during the night pushed the flames forward and within the yards of several houses.

The schools in Sierra Madre cancelled Monday classes and evacuation has began. As of now, there are 2 firefighters who got injured. The cause of the fire is yet to be known.

Pulling the trigger

April 25th, 2008

A I went through the photo album of my first marriage, I acn’t help but ask myself what went wrong. Then later on, a thought strikes me that clears up my head in a jiffy. I was still young when I first fell in love. And not to mention the fact that I used to exaggerate things.

Speaking of exaggeration, people do crazy things when they are in love. But even if they did something stupid, they should still be entitled for some true and real love. Do you remember the NYPD cops who took part in the 2006 epic 50-shot killing? Who woudl forget that? A man died on his wedding daw. 3 of the cops got acquitted and this angered every individual in New York which caused the people involved to break down and cry.

The way I see it, there is nothing wrong if the cops have been acquitted. Even if it was a manslaughter, they are still entitled for a fair trial and I think they got it as well.

They have to be tired

April 24th, 2008

After all those exhausted campaigns, everybody would notice that both presidential candidates, Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are definitely tired. After all those grueling head - to - head debates and wall to wall campaigns, there may be just a little energy left in both of them.

It just makes everyone wonder how they keep up with themselves. I’m pretty sure that all those hard work will wear you out one day. Hopefully, it should not wear them out when they are already serving the big office. Presidency is something that I personally consider as a job without any day-offs.

Stress and problems will continue to hound them but without a doubt, they are showing the United States of America their “A-Game” when it comes to politics. Let’s all just hope for the best.
